2 Die in T-bone Crash Near Leavenworth
Two people were killed in a t-bone crash on Wednesday, February 8th, 2023 at approximately 8:40a.m. in Tumwater Canyon, less than a mile west of Leavenworth, Washington. To facilitate the investigation, Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) crews closed US 2 between Mileposts 85-99 from Coles Corner to West of Leavenworth.
A brown Honda CR-V, driven by 55 year old Elizabeth Fortin from Delta, British Columbia, was traveling eastbound on Highway 2 at the time of the collision. Due to increased speed, Fortin lost control of the SUV, crossed into the opposite westbound lane, and was struck by a 2013 Toyota RAV4. Petar Kvenich (age 79) and Maria Valkovich (age 75) of Chilliwack, British Columbia, were passengers in Fortin’s vehicle when the accident occurred.
Roy M. Worden, a 68-year-old consultant and retired U.S. Air Force major general, was driving the Toyota RAV4 at the time of the fatal crash, with Lori E. Worden (age 67) a passenger of the vehicle. The Wordens reside in Leavenworth, where Mike “Roy” Worden was elected to the Cascade School Board in 2021.
Paramedics transported the occupants of both vehicles to Central Washington Hospital. Fortin, the driver of the Honda CR-V, was in critical condition, as were both occupants of the Toyota RAV4 — Roy M. Worden and Lori E. Worden. Kvenich and Valkovich, the Honda CR-V passengers, died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident.
Washington State Patrol continues to investigate the crash. For more information on the story, read the KPQ.com article.
