Driver Flees Deadly Chain-Reaction Crash on I-5

Two people were killed, and another critically injured in a hit-and-run accident that occurred around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, February 26th in the left lane of I-5 near Spokane Street, just south of the West Seattle Bridge. 

In total, three vehicles were involved in the accident, which began with a rear-end collision between two vehicles. After the initial collision, the drivers of those two vehicles pulled over to the side of the road and were cooperating with one another. The 22-year-old driver of the first vehicle was outside inspecting the damage to his car when a third vehicle — a jeep — rear-ended the second vehicle, sending it catapulting into the first, which then struck the 22-year-old driver in a chain-reaction accident. 

The 22-year-old man who was hit while examining his vehicle is in serious condition at Harborview Medical Center. The driver and passenger of the second vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene, after being extricated from their vehicle by the Fire Department. The driver has been identified as 38-year-old Terrell Aaron of Seattle. The identity of the passenger, a 34-year-old from Des Moines, has not yet been released.

The driver and passenger of the Jeep fled the scene of the accident on foot, according to the Washington State Patrol. "Turn yourselves in," Washington State Patrol Trooper Rick Johnson said. "Right now, it's a felony hit-and-run because of, obviously, the deaths, and it could reach the level of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault for the other injuries. Those are all potential charges."
